Ormos Porou, Elounda, Crete

August 2017

35º15.3 N 25º44.1 E

Ormos Porou is immediately south of the isthmus between the main land and the island which forms the east side of Spinalonga Lagoon.

We an horde in 6 metres of water on sand and found the holding to be good with 30 metres of cable in the water. The wind was regularly 20 to 25 knots.

Although not readily apparent there is a short canal from Ormos Porou across the isthmus and into Spinalonga Lagoon, Elounda is about 1 mile  in a tender.

There is a pleasant restaurant, Kanali, on the isthmus on the east bank of the canal and there is a low ‘quay’ to tie a tender to.

This is a busy anchorage with water skiers and ‘douhnuts’ being towed back and forth and is on a regular shuttle route for power boats from the hotels and apartments to the canal.

Otherwise a useful anchorage with adequate shelter from the north through to the west although exposed to the south and east.

Sailing south ….
