Ivan and Lu

Ivan and Lucy come to visit.

Although it almost ended in divorce Ivan managed to arrange a surprise trip for Lucy to visit us in Corfu.

Lu doesn’t like surprises and only found out she was off to Corfu in the Departure Lounge. She texted Valeria to say they were coming to Corfu and we should meet up, to which Valeria responded that we’d had to head straight to Prevezza because of the lightening. (Luckily Lu doesn’t read my blog as often as she might otherwise she’d have rumbled Ivan’s surprise )

They arrived late on Sunday evening and went straight to an hotel for the night, Lu still blissfully unaware that we were meeting them; although she was confused as to why Ivan had only booked the one night in the hotel. We planned to surprise Lu the following morning but with unfamiliar roads we were a little later than planned, so with Lu desperate to go out and look around Corfu Town, Ivan had to suddenly come down with diarrhoea and hide in the toilet while Lu fumed on the verandah.

Eventually Ivan decided he was able to leave the hotel and just as they were heading for the door Lu’s anticipated quiet break away from the kids (first one in 15 years) was shattered when we ambushed her! Happily Lu had been texting Valeria begging her come and rescue her, and miraculously Ivan’s upset stomach was suddenly cured! Win, win!

They were only visiting for 4 days and even though we couldn’t go anywhere we had a really good time.

We had a wander around Corfu Town and the old Venetian Fortress; Lu and I climbed to the top to take in the views while Ivan and Valeria waited for us in a cafe/bar.

There was a meal out at Zorba’s (where else would you go when in Greece!) and then on the following day sunbathing and chilling followed by the obligatory BBQ, including pole dancing and lots of Prosecco.

We spent their last afternoon on a nearby beach before stopping off into Corfu Town for some last minute souvenir shopping. Then it was off to the airport and all too soon we were saying our farewells.

It was fantastic to see them both and share their first ever ‘child-free’ holiday. Next time they visit, we’ll actually sail somewhere idyllic, rather than languish in a marina!
